History of Hilmar Lumber
History of Hilmar Lumber
On January 1, 1951 it all began with Lyman and his oldest son Lon starting a little business called Farmers Lumber Yard. The two hard working carpenters bought two acres on Lander Avenue next to the rail head of the Tidewater Railroad tracks. These two former prune pickers, began with very little money and worked odd construction jobs to purchase the land and to buy inventory. The first months gross receipts totaled $28.53 . They had one stack of 2x4 lumber and Lyman had Lon move it around to make it look like some thing was happening. Years later Lon turned the business over to his two sons Keith and Arlon . Today Hilmar Lumber staff numbers have reached almost 50. Hilmar Lumber has Ace Paint , Plumbing, Electrical, Hardware, Housewares, Office and Cleaning Supplies, Garden, Steel, PVC Pipe, Irrigation, Rental Equipment and all kinds of products for Agriculture.
